As the month of March has officially gotten off to a hot start, we’re entering a bit of a chaotic time for coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers. Already, the dead period has officially come to a close and spring football had its first day of practice yesterday. Now, as we look ahead, the purple and gold are set to host some of the best juniors in the country this weekend, most recently including five-star class of 2025 safety Jonah Williams – marking his first visit with LSU football recruiting.

LSU football recruiting adds another class of 2025 five-star to this weekend’s visitor list

LSU football recruiting went into the class of 2025 cycle with a mission in mind. Going after some of the very best recruits in the country, the Tigers have the potential to bring in the top group nationally.

As a part of their efforts, they’ll host their second junior day of 2024 this weekend, which already boasts an impressive list of visitors.

Among the early names to plan their visit to Baton Rouge from March 8 until March 9 included wide receiver Jaime Ffrench, cornerback Chris Ewald, running back Nate Sheppard, athlete Joshua Brantley and most recently five-star safety Jonah Williams.

Along with his trip to see the Tigers this weekend, Williams also included trips to Ohio State (March 30), Texas (April 6), Texas A&M (April 13) and Oregon (May 17) on his list of spring visits.

Ranking as the No. 18 player nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, Williams ranks among the very best not only in Texas, but in the entire country.

Listed as both a linebacker and safety, depending on the recruiting service you use, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete has a rare combination of size, speed and ball skills that can translate to most positions on a defense. Whether he ends up as a coverage linebacker or a hard hitting safety will ultimately be up to whichever school eventually earns his commitment.

For the time being, Oklahoma looks like the early favorite to land the talented class of 2025 five-star, while Texas, Ohio State and Oregon are each schools to watch.

Depending on how this weekend’s visit goes, the Tigers very well could find their way into his list of top programs, similarly to what we saw with five-star safety DJ Pickett earlier this offseason. Until then, LSU is facing a bit more of an uphill recruitment for the Galveston, TX, product, so getting him on campus is a major step in the right direction.
