Coach Matt McMahon has some work to do on the recruiting trail for the class of 2024. While the Tigers’ class of 2023 is looking good with two solid commitments, they don’t have any commitments for the 2024 class. However, that could be changing soon, with LSU basketball being named a finalist for four-star forward Micah Robinson.

After this past season at the helm of LSU basketball, coach Matt McMahon is likely looking for a much better 2023 season. Even more so, he’ll want to prove to the fanbase that he is, indeed, the man for the job.

Oftentimes, the exact way to make that happen is through recruiting and the transfer portal. Heading into next season, there’s little question that he knows how to work the transfer portal.

In the past two cycles, he’s brought in a total of 12 transfers. Now, he just needs to find a way to translate that success into the world of high school recruiting.

Heading into the class of 2024, he might be well on his way to doing that. On June 29, the Tigers made the top eight for four-star forward Micah Robinson.

Robinson is listed as the No. 96 player in the class of 2024 and a four-star prospect, according to 247 Sports. He stands at 6-foot-6, 200 pounds, and can absolutely fly around the rim.

Aside from LSU basketball, his finalists are primarily comprised of SEC and Big 12 schools. As things stand, TCU appears to be the favorite to land the top 100 forward.

Robinson is nearly impossible to stop close to the rim

When you attend a high school as prestigious as Oak Hill Academy, it’s almost required that you be good at basketball. After all, the school has produced several NBA legends, including Carmelo Anthony, Josh Smith and Rajon Rondo.

For Micah Robinson, this isn’t an issue that he’ll run into. It doesn’t take much game tape to realize just how talented he is, particularly around the rim.

He’s the kind of player who isn’t afraid to take or give some contact. If he sees even the slightest crease to the rim, he’ll make his way through for an easy (or not) bucket.

What makes him so good at that is his footwork. He not only has the strength, but he also possesses the necessary body control to slip past even the best defenders.

Coach Matt McMahon has some ground to make up, but LSU basketball is well within this recruiting battle. Earning Micah Robinson’s commitment would be a huge win and could assist in building this program well into the future.
