After having been committed to LSU football for nearly 11 full months, five-star class of 2025 quarterback Bryce Underwood has officially announced his decommitment from the Tigers, as well as his flip commitment to the Michigan Wolverines.

As per annual tradition, college football recruiting has once again shocked the world, and unfortunately for the LSU football program, their loss was a victory for Sherrone Moore and the future of the Michigan Wolverines.

First announcing his commitment to the Tigers on January 6, 2024, five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood appeared as close to a lock for Baton Rouge, LA, as we’ve seen in recent memory. Despite living just 20 minutes away from the University of Michigan campus, the No. 1 player in the class of 2025 never appeared to waver on his pledge to the purple and gold, staying away from all official visits following his January announcement.

With that said, the draw to the in-state school was clearly a bit too strong, and after recent rumors of a $10.5M NIL offer from the Wolverines, the talented Belleville, MI, signal caller has officially announced his decommitment from LSU, as well as his commitment to Michigan.

Officially listed as a 6-foot-4, 214-pound quarterback out of Belleville High School, Underwood ranks as the No. 1 quarterback, according to On3, as well as the No. 1 player in the entire class of 2025.

With his decommitment, coach Brian Kelly and the entire LSU football program now find themselves in a state of limbo, unsure of what the future holds; potentially as early as next season.

Right now, senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is projected as high as top-five among signal callers eligible for the 2025 draft. If the former four-star, Lake Charles, LA, product does choose to try his chances at the NFL, the Tigers will officially be left with senior AJ Swann, redshirt sophomore Rickie Collins, true sophomore Colin Hurley and true sophomore Knox Dyson.

The LSU football recruiting class of 2025 now finds itself ranked No. 6 nationally, as well as No. 5 within the SEC. Important to note, the purple and gold still hold a commitment from five-star cornerback DJ Pickett, five-star running back Harlem Berry and five-star cornerback Kade Phillips. Still, major decommitments such as that of Thursday’s have a habit of causing some chaos within the world of college football recruiting, so it will be notable to keep an eye on how things move from here moving forward.
